Built 1911-1917, the Chittenden Locks, or Ballard Locks, connect Salmon Bayu with Lake Washiongton.
The ship canal and locks carry more boats than any other lock in the United States.
They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the American Society of Civil Engineers Historic Ciovil Engineering Landmarks.
